Taking place on 8-14 March, National Butchers’ Week 2021 celebrates retail butchers that have supported communities during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The event aims to highlight the hard work done by butchers over the past year, providing butchers with the perfect opportunity to engage with existing customers and win over new ones.
As well as competitions being run on social media, the National Butchers’ Week website has downloadable posters and press releases to help butchers engage with customers and local press to drive awareness.
Organised by William Reed Business Media, this year’s National Butchers’ Week is kindly supported by Henry Winning & Co., Innovative Food Ingredients and Windsor Food Machinery. All three sponsors are running Instagram competitions in the run-up to National Butchers’ Week, with more details to be revealed on the Meat Trades Journal Instagram feed.
Henry Winning & Co managing director Stuart Revill said: “Henry Winning & Co has supported National Butchers’ Week for a number of years and we are as excited as ever to support this event. This year’s event comes in unprecedented times and as a supplier to the butchery industry, it has been heart-warming to see the incredible response from butchers up and down the country during the Covid-19 pandemic.“
“The butchery industry has adapted and innovated their services throughout the year to adapt to the needs of a nation and shone a light on the importance of local businesses. This year’s National Butchers’ Week will be a fantastic opportunity to reflect and to thank the industry and its key workers who have supported the entire nation.“
Innovative Food Ingredients managing director David Brennand said:
“First and foremost, we hope that 2021 will see everyone safe and healthy through the current situation.
Innovative Food Ingredients has spent much of 2020 satisfying and supporting the changing needs of our customers throughout these unprecedented times. Playing a key part in keeping our nation fed, working to ensure that our customers receive exactly what they want and when they want it. Being on hand to not only supply the ‘day to day’ products but an ever-evolving and exciting range of innovative sausage and burger mixes, marinades, sauces and superb retail products that allows our butchers and farm shops to offer something interesting and different to what their customers might find in their local supermarket has been our priority.
Society has reacted to this uncertainty by defaulting to what they know is safe, secure and trustworthy, putting their trust in their local butcher and the many local food businesses in our communities. Looking after their local community, is the lasting testament to those butchers, farm shops and other local businesses who have gone the extra mile!
Innovative Food Ingredients is proud and delighted to be a corporate sponsor and playing a part in supporting National Butchers’ Week, raising the profile of the great work that is being done by butchers, farm shops and local businesses throughout the UK.
We wish that 2021 will bring about a continued appreciation of shopping local and supporting local.
Windsor Food Machinery sales executive Glen Kirton added: “Coming to the end of this extremely challenging Winter, Windsor Food Machinery have taken the opportunity to sponsor the National Butchers’ Week 2021 for the first time. This is because we feel it is imperative to get behind the businesses that have kept our nation supplied with top quality products and great customer service throughout the pandemic. Retail butchers especially have grasped the opportunity to capitalise on the extra local footfall and stepped up to other opportunities by offering home deliveries like never seen before. Catering Butchers have proved they are resilient by diversifying online and offering home deliveries too.“
“All of this has been achieved under extremely challenging conditions like never seen before. Owners and staff of every business still operating over this period have had to work incredibly hard to supply, whilst knowing that by doing they have potentially put their own friends and family members at risk. Butchery right now is important to the nation, everyone is recognising the quality products and the great customer service butchers have to offer, so this is the perfect time to promote all that is good in the trade and WFM are proud to be able to support this drive and support the trade.“
Butcher’s Shop of the Year 2019 winner, Malcolm Pyne of Pyne’s of Somerset explained the importance of National Butchers’ Week and how it unites the entire retail butchery industry.
He celebrates it by “constantly broadcasting it on social media” and in 2020 had a visit from local farmers to learn about the products he sells in the award-winning shop. “National Butchers’ Week lights a spark under the industry to raise awareness,” he says. “As individuals we do our best but if we act as a whole, it wakes people up to the work we’re doing.”
